26th February 2012 an introduction to Track riding

By | 26/01/2012

British Cycling coach Rob Sharman is putting on an ‘Introduction to track riding’ for young Eastern Region riders on 26 February 2012. It is specifically for novice and beginner track riders to gain experience of riding a track bike at the Newport indoor Velodrome in South Wales

Participation in this first session is entirely free – all you will need to fund is your own travel to the velodrome plus track bike hire if you need one, which is only a few pounds.

The aim of this session is to give you a great experience of the thrills of track riding at a fantastic venue and for you to have an opportunity to pick up some essential skills that are not only relevant to track riding/racing but are also key in maximising your all round development and, hopefully, to inspire you to engage in some track racing in the future.

BC has decided to give priority to U16 & U14 Youth riders, but Juniors and U12s & younger can apply and, if there are places available, they will be given one.

The format for the day will be:

  • 4hrs of a track riding skills, track time runs from 12 – 4pm.
  • Directly after the sessions an off bike workshop for riders, coaches and any family members titled ‘Why Track’ (1hour max). At this point Riders and family members will be free to go unless they would specifically like to be there for the following coaches discussion.
  • Following straight on from the workshop a discussion among club coaches about plans for more Super Club Sessions in 2012 and beyond.

Colin Parish is organising the lvycc riders. contact (colinparish@aol.com).

It will be great to have more club members able to ride the track season at Welwyn next year and then go on to ride the Olympic track when it is opened to the public.
