Lee Valley got off to an amazing start on day one of the 53rd Youth Tour of Assen in the Netherlands today, with club riders winning not one but two categories.
Day one is the day of the prologue, where riders compete in a short time trial close to the event’s HQ. It’s an important day which sets the tone for the General Classification contest that plays out through the week.
There were strong rides across the categories, with everyone giving their all to clock the fastest times they could over the 1.7km course. Everyone is set to fully contest the GC in each age category.
But there were really outstanding performances from two LVYCC riders. Anna Lloyd clocked a incredible time of 3:29.56 to take the overall win in Category 1, with more than 4 seconds separating her from the rider in second place. With it came the coveted yellow leader’s jersey. The club is fully behind her as she looks to retain it on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Leo Bolton repeated Anna’s success in the youngest Aspiranten category where he set the day’s fastest time and picked up the leader’s red jersey.
Well done to Anna and Leo, and to all the riders who all acquitted themselves brilliantly and did the club proud! Everyone’s now looking forward to some fast and furious racing on Tuesday at the “Gold Coast” crit.
