Lee Valley Youth Cycling Club & Lee Valley Velo
Lee Valley Youth Cycling Club started at Eastway Cycling Circuit on the 1st May 2000. The site is now the site the Lee Valley Velopark following the 2012 Olympic Games. Our home is now the Redbridge Cycling Centre aka Hog Hill.
LVYCC caters for riders aged 6-16 years and LVV for everyone else!
We run a wide range of activities from serious training for champions through to riding for fun including:
- Circuit, track and road riding.
- Mountain biking.
- Group coaching sessions by Club Coaches.
- Skills training for beginners through Go-Ride Gear sessions.
The Club is represented in most National Competitions in youth categories and also promotes many youth races. We also organise our own road race series in Summer and Winter and have organised successful National races at Hog Hill on behalf of British Cycling, the national cycling body.
We welcome riders of all abilities and most members joined with little previous cycling experience. As a Go-Ride Registered club, our coaching activities are run by British Cycling qualified coaches, all of whom have undergone a CRB check and have been cleared to work with children.
If your child needs them, we have bikes and helmets for hire at low cost, so theres no reason not to get riding! Come and join a friendly, relaxed club atmosphere and learn to become an expert rider.
Lee Valley Velo was re-formed in 2012 to cater for the demands of our youths who were moving up to Juniors and to encourage our adult members. We hope to develop the type of social riding that takes place in other clubs and to develop the coaching skills of our Juniors. We also will be looking to organise Junior and adult races alongside of our popular Winter and Summer Circuit Series.
New riders & Riding as a non-member
We meet most Saturdays at Redbridge Cycling Centre with the cycling session from 10 – 12. We normally have road cirxcuit and off-road riding. All riders are required to sign-on and parents are required to remain on site for the duration of the session. There are bike hire facilities available at an extra cost.
We are a very successful club and regularly have up to 100 riders of various abilities on a Saturday. As all of the adults are volunteers our resources are becoming a little stretched! So for benefit of all riders and taking safety of our riders into account, we have temporarily suspending new membership of the youth section of the club.
We had introduced a induction/evaluation days for non-members so that riders can be put in the appropriate group. Non-members can then ride on Saturdays for the rest of that month and will need to then decide whether this is for them and if so, join the club. The next induction/evaluation day will be in 2014. Date to be advised.
Non-member fees are £6 per session. Club membership is £12 per year with a resulting reduction of session fees to £3.
