Hayes BMX Club track – much larger than Hog Hill!

Last Sunday, the London Youth Games BMX event took place at Hayes BMX Club in Hillingdon.

LVYCC were well represented making up nearly half of Team Redbridge and with a couple more members racing for Team Havering. Also Andy White, who is on the LVYCC Committee, was the Coach for Team Redbridge.

It was a very sunny and hot day.  Registration opened at 9.15 but the races didn’t start to around midday and finished around 5pm.  The BMX track was much larger than the circuit at Hog Hill and the races required a big effort.

Once the races began, they came in rapid succession.  Everyone rode 3 races in the early stages with the results used to create the quarter finals selection.  After this came the semi-finals and then every rider was given a slot in a Final race (there were A Finals, B Finals, C Finals etc).

Team Hillingdon won the event with reigning champions Southwark in second place.  Redbridge and Havering did really well to finish in 6th and 7th places.

Benji Au mid-race

A special mention should go to Ellie Clough who reached the A Final for the second year in a row in the U12 girls.  Ellie came in 7th place overall.

Lochlan Dyer and Benji Au reached the quarter final stage and they battled it out in the D Final for the U10 boys – Lochlan pipped Benji in the final race but Benji just edged Lochlan in the overall standings coming in 28th and 29th place.  Well done also to Gaurav Meher and William Barlow and a big thumbs up to Dylan Clough, Louis Tysoe and Jo Tysoe who raced BMX for the very first time!

We achieved fantastic results when you consider that none of our riders usually race BMX and have done most of their practice on a much smaller circuit.
