A group of LVYCC club members and parents met up at Birches Valley Centre, Cannock Chase last Sunday and Monday to ride the mountain bike trails.
It was great to be out of London and cycling on off-road singletracks in the forest. Luckily the weather held out, although it was a bit windy on the Sunday. The trails were tricky and technical with some challenging climbs but really fun on the fast, downhill sections.
Most groups rode the ‘Follow the Dog’ trail 2 or 3 times and the really tough ‘Monkey Trail’ once. The trails are divided into various named sections and the children really loved these fantastic names. Highlights were ‘High Voltage’, ‘Son of a Chainslapper’ and ‘Let Loose‘.
I was extremely impressed with the technical ability of the kids, their bike-handling skills and their stamina and determination to complete the trails.
There was a group dinner on Sunday evening before we all met up again for a second day of riding. The plan was to take it relatively easy but it’s hard not to get excited by the trails and wanting to do them one more time. We found a shortcut which allowed us to ride the back end of the Monkey Trail – this meant only one climb up ‘Insidious Incline‘ and then really fast and steep descending down ‘Lower Cliff‘.
A great time was had by all and we are looking forward to doing it all again next year.
Big thanks to Sam Muna for organising the group.
