Crit Under the Castle, National Youth Circuit Series, 18 June

I was asked to write a race report of the Crit Under The Castle. This was the 5th round of the National Youth Circuit Series and took place at Stirling in Scotland on 18 June. The event itself was a technical city centre circuit including a cobbled climb. Fortunately the weather was hot and dry for the racing.

The official BC race report is here…..

I was the sole representative from LVYCC – not surprising as it was an 8 hour drive! I was cycling in the Youth A girls race. The race started off at a very hard pace: myself and a few others made sure of this by ramping it up at the very start and pushing hard up the cobbled climb. This eventually split the peloton to around eleven riders.

As the race went on, a number of us tried to attack, mostly on the cobbled climb, but no-one was able to get away – partly due to the headwind at the top of the climb. The pace did slow up a bit after half way through the race and other riders dropped previously managed to catch the the bunch.

As it became clear the race was going to end in a sprint amongst the leading group, I tried really hard to concentrate on my position. On the final lap I held second wheel through the city and up the climb and then launched my sprint late into the headwind to take the win ahead of Olivia Bent (Team Jadan-Weldtite) and Lucy Gadd (Poole Wheelers).
Here you can see the finish

I was absolutely delighted and really pleased. Many thanks for all the support I have had from the club. It is a great event if a few more riders from LVYCC fancy it another year – although a long journey!
