Cyclo-cross season is almost here!

By | 15/08/2011

A lot of our cyclo-cross riders ride in the Eastern league. Last year Georg Jensen won the U12 category, Matt Clements was 3rd in the U14 category and Francesca Morgans-Slader won the U16 girls category.

If you want to score points in the league then now is the time to sign up. Details on the EC-CA website: together with a full fixture list for the season. The first fixture is now on Sunday 11th September.

The following has just been received form Mark Wyer:

Dear Rider,
The Eastern Cyclo-Cross Association (EC-CA) has been working on plans to further aid the development of young riders in the region.
Martin Fry has been appointed the new Youth Squad Manager and has worked out a new development plan for the region.
There will be 4 Contenders training sessions during the course of the season.  These will be high quality coaching sessions, similar to the RSRs run by Rob Sharman.  In addition to ‘cross skills the sessions will cover race preparation, nutrition and kit recommendations.  We will be inviting guest coaches to help out with some days.  These sessions will be open to riders born in the years 1995 to 2000 (last year U12 to first year junior).  Riders will need to have their own ‘Cross bikes and be fit enough to cope with a challenging training session.  Riders who think they are ready for these sessions should apply to Martin to attend or you can be recommended by your club.
Put these Contender  sessions in your diary now and apply to Martin to attend the first date. (
24th September      – Welwyn Garden City
22nd October
19th November
17th December
Other venues to be confirmed but will be shared around the region.
In addition a Regional Youth Squad will be selected with about 8 – 10 riders in it.  These riders will get additional support from the region.  Squad riders will be expected to be regular league competitors and competing at a national level.
The Inter-Area Cyclo-Cross Championships team will be mainly selected from the area squad.  Next season sees the introduction of a Youth Girls category in the Inter-Areas so we will be looking for 4 youth girls to form a team.
Dont forget to join the league for the new season and check out the calendar on the EC-CA website
