LVYCC hosted the youth races section of the Eastern Counties Cycling Association Festival at Hog Hill on Saturday April 30th.
Unfortunately the morning was marred by a couple of nasty crashes on the bottom circuit, one in the U12 race and another in the U14/U16 girls race. For a time the racing had to be halted to get medical attention to the riders involved. Best wishes to all of them and hope they have a speedy recovery.
Despite this the racing did continue, and there were plenty of strong performances through the morning. Milo Wills and Ethan Leslie were 2nd and 3rd in the U8 boys. Carys Lloyd won the U10 girls race. Alfie Salmon, Daniel Lloyd and Max Rethman all finished in the top 10 in the U12 boys – 4th, 8th and 9th respectively. Eleanor Bolton, Zoe Warner and Lucy Warner were 2nd, 3rd and 4th in the U12 girls. Max Bolton won the U14 boys with first year Alex Dale also finishing in the top ten in 8th position. First year U16 Christian Manzi finished 7th in the U16 boys and Kate Wootton finished a fantastic 3rd in a hard fought U16 girls race.
It should also be said that you don’t have to finish in the top ten to have done well. Any rider with the courage and gritty determination to get involved and finish one of these races has achieved a lot in my book. You should set your own realistic goals based on your experience, fitness and speed and measure your success by that. Don’t get discouraged by being beaten, instead look for the progress you have made. Aim to push yourself as hard as you can through the race, aim to stay with a particular rider, aim to stay with the bunch for one lap, then two, then half the race. First and foremost it’s yourself you’re competing with, if you can beat others as well then all the better.
Congratulations to the ECCA medal winners, and to those U8/U10 and U12 LVYCC riders who banked more points in the LVYCC Points Competition. All the updated totals and positions are on the website.
Daniel Lloyd is now leading the U12 boys competition, followed by Alfie Salmon and Max Rethman. Eleanor Bolton is out in front of the U12 girls, followed by Zoe Warner and Ava Ferguson. Noah Haycraft is first in the U10 boys, followed by Owen Kreisky and Finbar Stockley. Carys Lloyd has a large lead in the U10 girls, with Rebecca Gardiner and Isabel Nyman in joint second. Anna Lloyd is first in the U8 girls, followed by Emily Duckworth, and in the U8 boys Ethan Leslie is still in first place, followed by James Oates and L Dyer.
There is one more race remaining in the Points Competition series – to be held on June 18th. Be there!
