London Cyclocross Summer Series 2014, Round 2 (31 July 2014)

Round 2 of the Summer Cyclocross Series found us soaking up the sun in the lovely rolling grounds of Addington Park in Croydon. The course builders had given us a short but twisting course with plenty of tight turns and flowing downhill carves through the trees to compensate for the uphill drags. Short mown grass on dry ground gave us a fast racing surface.

Representing LVYCC, William Warre improved on his first round performance by riding steadily and strongly to win the junior race. Riding up as a senior, James Madgwick (Lee Valley Velo) led out the main field for the first half lap before being caught by the two riders who were going on to claim first and second places.  James was gapped by the two leaders and settled back to join a following group of four trying to work their way back up to the front. Defending against a number of attacks, it was eventually down to James and one other rider to contest the final sprint, won by James for third place senior and third in the race overall.

Jason Warre and Tony Madgwick of Lee Valley Velo competed in the vets race and were rewarded by being lapped twice by their younger team mates! As the minor results have not yet been published, we will pass gracefully over their final positions…

There are two more races to go at Bethlem Hospital (7 August) and Herne Hill (14 August) with u12 races at 6 pm, Youth racing at 6:20 pm and everyone else at 7 pm. It’s a friendly crowd, well organised and really well attended with over 100 riders turning out on these balmy summer evenings. There are also training sessions available for those who want to get ready for the 2014/15 series. See for more information or talk to Tony Madgwick.
