What did you do on Saturday? Well — Bradley Wiggins showed me around the Tour bus!! How about that for a conversation stopper? Read all about it in Colin Parishs report below. Thanks to all who orgnised this and helped on the day – especially to Kate Ambrose.
Club members made their presence felt at this year’s London stage of the Tour of Britain by entertaining the crowds in a thrilling Italian pursuit competition. We fielded three teams in the competition, with our A team of Caitlin, William, James and George, being narrowly beaten into third place after the first heat between VCL and Hillingdon had to be re-run because they did(n’t?) follow the rules. Unfortunately both those teams pipped our A team’s best time by a couple of seconds, forcing us into third. Our B team of Lexi, Aiden, Finlay and Georg and our C team of Simon, Callum, Joel and a guest rider from Herne Hill, also put in good performances at the start/finish line. A big thanks to Kate Ambrose who organised the training for the event and wins a ‘herding cats’ award for keeping everyone on track.
Before the big race began a group of our kids, resplendent in their kit, were invited into the Team Sky tourbus by none other than Bradley Wiggins, who had seen them patiently waiting outside for autographs. He gave them a tour of the bus, chatted to them and signed autographs.
Elsewhere the club’s white, green and blue was in evidence with a large bunch of our members cheering on their heroes throughout the race.
If you didn’t make it this year you should try to get to see the tour next year – cycle racing at its very best right on our doorstep.
