The final race of the Beastway Winter series took place on Feb 17th and was a great success.
It was a beautiful, sunny day and, once again, Beckenham Place Park provided a magnificent setting. The Mansion stood proudly at the top overlooking the park and had the grandest sign-in room you can imagine.
The race route followed the same format to the earlier rounds. It started in the Mansion’s parkland before climbing up into the singletrack of the mature woodland and then winding its way back with the LVYCC gazebo marking the finish line. It wasn’t as wet or windy as the previous rounds which led to a faster race.
There was great success for LVYCC in the final standings of the series.
Benji Au came was overall series winner in the under 10 boys.
William Barlow came second in the under 12 boys.
And his older brother, Fred Barlow came first in the under 14 boys.
Special mention should also go to Thomas Bass who came fourth in the under 12 boys.
We must thank the Beastway Team for putting on such a fantastic event. Setting up a new race series in a new venue is a brilliant achievement that took a lot of hard work and planning. They worked closely with the parks management, Lewisham Council and the Friends of Beckenham Place Park but also had to earn the trust of the local population. Hopefully the series will become a regular fixture and they are also trying to establish a cycling club for the park.
Now our attention will turn to the Beastway summer series which will return to Hog Hill on Wednesday evening’s from May 2nd to June 27th. Tickets are available now and it is much cheaper to buy in advance for the full series. – see link below.
